hm , do you mean sun? Title doesn't make sense for a landscape painting otherwise. Not that its strictly necessary, but I'm just wondering?

Good pick up janneward but no, it is quite deliberate. "Son" and "sun" used interchangeably for a metaphor. Think about a 'prodigal' son or something in that direction and hopefully it might make a little more sense... or be more confusing and cryptic...
